Alexandra Yuriko Roth is a 23 year-old, “Hapa” girl born to her Caucasian father and native-Japanese mother. Raised in the cozy town of Hilo on the island of Hawai‘i, Alex grew up musically and academically driven. She spent most of her adolescent years practicing flute, piano, dance, hula, and performing in various community theater productions. She also graduated with Honors from Waiakea High School in three years, while taking college courses at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo from the age of 15.
After high school, Alex spent a year in Nagoya, Japan studying on exchange at Nanzan University. There, she aimed to become fluent in her second language and passed the highest rank of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (日本語能力試験１級). Alex then returned to Hawai‘i to study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where she graduated at the young age of 19. She earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Japanese and Communications, with a focus on public relations. She currently works as the Director of Communications and Special Projects at the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association, Hawaii’s premier visitor industry association. Alex also works as an actress, singer, and as a freelance emcee.
Since moving to the island of Oahu in late 2012, Alex has been actively involved in the Miss Hawaii Organization, a branch of the coveted Miss America Organization. She previously held the titles Miss Kauai and Miss Kahala and placed in the top 5 at both the Miss Hawaii 2013 and Miss Hawaii 2015 pageants. She currently serves on the Miss Hawaii’s Outstanding Teen executive board as the judges chair, and helps train and empower contestants to be their best self.
Outside of pageantry and performing arts, Alex also enjoys exploring Hawai‘i’s beautiful island paradise.
